my rewatches this year were all romances, and all near and dear to my heart! actually ella enchanted is a horrible movie adaptation but i didn't remember that before rewatching. the other ones were good.
third year in a row in which i will say i am looking forward to the community movie! v___v

i forgot that i watched the oc season 2 this year LOL i thought it was all last year but i started it a lot later than i started gilmore girls in 2022. there may be some other shows i forgot i watched bc i don't have netflix anymore and i only remember what i tweet about. the oc thread, if i hated myself i would watch the oc season 3... i already read wikipedia summaries back then so i know it goes even more off the rails and i shouldn't waste my time and yet...
dts season 6 was uhhh.. unmemorable. thread. tbf nothing happened in f1 last year besides max breaking all the records. my fave part of the season was the alex meta netflix mockery
queen of tears livetweet thread. i must have started it when it premiered but stopped. i knew this was coming out because of kim jiwon (my favorite actress for 10 years) but obviously the writing was not that good. i admit that!! and i was struggling to decide between dropping it as usual or powering through and hoping it wouldn't be sunk cost fallacy. but it ended up being more interesting after the first 1/3 and fun to watch. i think the writing was at its best in the middle third actually... because that's when the conflict was genuine love-hate for each other and all that. the last 1/3 had the worst writing because it was makjang but it was very engaging to watch. i'm glad it was super popular even though the writing was bad ♡ i love kjw ♡
i got back into snl for some reason... i want to make a new fav sketches post (last one was jan '24) but i'm lazy T__T these are the ones i never get bored of and here's my "good" sketch list that now has 196 videos.
this is way less tv than i expected and i'm wondering if i forgot something but i really can't think of anything else... i think i played more games and read more this year. i didn't watch gbbo because i don't have netflix and i'm lazy!! and i need to catch up on one piece but atp i'm just waiting for one pace to finish wano.
BOOKS
first-time reads:
- Beautiful World, Where Are You - Sally Rooney
- Murder on the Orient Express - Agatha Christie
- The Mystery of the Blue Train - Agatha Christie
- Crying in H Mart - Michelle Zauner
- Death on the Nile - Agatha Christie
- The A.B.C. Murders - Agatha Christie
- The Murder of Roger Ackroyd - Agatha Christie
- Ella Enchanted - Gail Carson Levine
- Warriors - Erin Hunter (21 books) (The Prophecy Begins 1-6, A New Prophecy 1-6, Power of Three 1-6, Omen of the Stars 1-3)
i don't remember why my agatha christie kick actually started but it might have been this video which i watched in early august. this summer i was on a ted-ed logic problem video kick as well... anyway i finally read some of her most popular mysteries as well as whatever popped up on libby. murder mysteries are easy reads shockingly and although i have a history of being scared or not being able to sleep after consuming mystery/law/death media i think i'm getting better as time goes on. i thought this would never happen because i hadn't improved by high school but time really gives you perspective (that high schoolers are still babies!!). i feel like the experience of reading the murder of roger ackroyd made me need to take a break tho which is kinda sad because it's very well written but emotionally i was like I've Had Enough. i shouldn't have taken notes, but part of me still wishes i could solve a mystery before i'm told the answer!! i'm not smart enough... T_T
ella enchanted was such a good reread i love that book so much!! (please view my lines post...) and then warriors.... over thanksgiving break i was wandering through the children's section of a bookstore which i don't normally check out and saw their selection of warriors books.... actually my original main takeaway from that visit was that i wanted to reread the mysterious benedict society because i saw a nice box set and i don't think i've read all the books in it. i took a picture of that one and was probably going to do that first. but the next day kaia and jess were talking about warriors and rereading on twitter and kaia suggested book clubbing them. so here i am a few weeks later having read close to 1 warriors book per day LOL it's because a compelling romance can get u to endure all sorts of filler for crumbs... (this is also how i sped through gilmore girls)
the only thing that could stop me from reading even more warriors was rediscovering some old forum threads... i stopped reading books on 12/22 and started reading threads in all of my spare time. you can't beat nostalgia!
(didn't read manga or webtoons this year, either)
GAMES
- Unicorn Overlord (2024) (Switch) - thread
- Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (2010) (Switch) - thread
- Pikmin 4 (2024) (Switch)
- Ace Attorney Investigations Collection (2009 / 2011 / 2024) (Switch)
- MySims Kingdom (2008 / 2024) (Switch)
- Pikmin Bloom (Mobile)
i'm glad i finally played ghost trick... i think it was hyped up a bit too much before i played so i wasn't as awed by it as i thought i would be but it was a very cool game.
i had never played pikmin nor taken any interest in it before i played the pikmin 4 demo (sometime after kaia started playing it) but i'm sooo glad i did... i still don't think the character designs are that cute but pikmin bloom really changed my mind on the appeal of pikmin. it's about the mass quantities of them and the simplistic design! pikmin 4 is actually really fun and relaxing, it has a time-based mechanic but the game is easy enough that if you don't want to minmax you can just do whatever you want and it'll be fine. it appeals to my completionist/collectionist nature with the shiny treasures and if you want to challenge yourself you can keep doing dandori challenges until you get the platinum record which i think is a great balance. but once i beat the main game i stopped playing completely.
sometime after i finished pikmin 4 i was on the play store and found pikmin bloom randomly and was like huh! i will download this walking app and see how it goes. i played by myself for a few days and then unsuccessfully tried to get arlene and kaia to download it too so i was just playing by myself for like a month and a half! then kaia got it when she came to visit me and long story short we now have a 7-person group!! it has encouraged me to walk more on days when i'd normally be pretty sedentary although i've been giving up at the end of the month... at the beginning of the month there's still a sense of "i need to beat these challenges to get these event pikmin" and at the end its like... well... if i don't get them it's fine. it brings me joy to see that some kpop idols play it though LOL
ace attorney investigations was essentially a replay and so it wasn't that exciting but they really are good games if you like ace attorney! mysims kingdom was REALLY a throwback replay because i probably played that on wii around 2010... i went through it way faster than i did as a child of course but it's a fun one. probably not worth the price tag if not for the nostalgia, but i need to see if the mysims half of the bundle is any fun
i need to go back to playing pc games (ie. my peaceful hidden object games).... i got a new laptop which killed my desire to even turn on my old laptop and play the games i didn't want to transfer to this one. i bought f1 manager 2023 on sale but i hate it... requires too much brainpower that i don't have. and i love playing games on the switch/tv more than my laptop.
new york times games: rip vertex :( i'm so sad they axed it but it was in the cards... connections has an archive now and strands but i stopped playing again >_> and i don't do the crosswords consistently but sometimes i catch up on mondays/tuesdays. i also never do the mini anymore... it's more work to type letters than the dopamine of completing it
sporcle: my stats are now
> 1,567 quizzes played
> 1,320 unique quizzes played lifetime (this number was 656 at the end of 2023)
> 1.16% percent played of all published quizzes
i think february-april 2024 is when i got my ~80 day streak in and once i lost the streak after that in may, i moved on from sporcle and i really haven't played much. but that explains what i did with my time in q2... a lot of 20 minute logic quizzes (which usually take me multiple cycles because i am slow)
